The pool swimming season does not have to be only in the summer months. You can also get warm water in your pool outside the regular season. All you have to do is get water heating systems. We've put together an overview of pool water heating technology to help you choose the best method for your indoor and backyard pool.

What is pool heating

As we've already mentioned, pool heater technology can heat your water and extend your swimming season by a few months. To keep the heat out of your water, you can't do without a pool cover or solar sail. In addition to traditional skimmer and overflow pools, water heating technology is also used in spa pools and hot tubs that you can have in your home. However, with higher water temperatures also come more bacteria that like to breed in the water, and the associated difficulty of disinfecting the pool water.

Why should you get a water heating system?

  • You don't have to bathe in cold water.
  • You can keep your water warm even in inclement weather.
  • Extend your bathing season.
  • Ensure your home spa with really warm water.

Unfortunately, heating water is a more expensive proposition. Whatever technology you use to heat your water, you have to factor in the added cost of running your pool. As we mentioned, not only will you appreciate the warm water, but so will the bacteria and microbes. Therefore, you can't do without a good quality pool water disinfection. You can try a chlorine-free water treatment such as a UV lamp or ozone, but chlorine pool water disinfection is guaranteed to be more reliable.

Heat pump for swimming pools

This is a modern and efficient device that heats the pool water. A heat pump works on a similar principle to a refrigerator or air conditioner. Only in reverse. This method of heating water works especially well during the summer season, but it can also extend the swimming season. So you can bathe in warm water from about mid-April to mid-October.

How a pool heat pump works

For a pool heat pump to work, the ambient air temperature must be positive. Ideally, the temperature should reach 15 °C. The pump uses a compressor to heat the water, which extracts heat energy from the surroundings. The energy is then fed into the water, which is then heated. It also needs electricity to operate, but it can generate up to six times the energy used.

If problems arise and pool heat pump service is required, then you can contact us. This is because we provide a complete service of pool technology and pool heat pump service is a matter of course for us.

Choosing a heat pump for your pool

Choose aheat pump primarily based on the size of the pool and the desired water temperature. In fact, there are many models on the market with different performance levels. So when choosing, look mainly at the heating factor. That is, the ratio between the power input and the pump output.

Where to place the heat pump for water heating?

The heat pump itself is placed in an open space or in a pre-prepared niche. If you are putting it in a pool sump, house or other space, keep the minimum distances from the walls. The air intake side should have a gap of 800-1,000 mm from the wall, the air exhaust side 2,000-2,500 mm. From the sides, the pump should have a space of 700 mm. Also bear in mind that the room or space must never be completely enclosed.

Advantages of a pool heat pump

  • Great choice for heating water in large pools
  • great energy savings compared to other water heating technologies
  • low purchase price
  • no incidental costs
  • high payback
  • use of renewable resources
  • quick and easy installation
  • automatic operation
  • long service life
  • high heating factor that extends the bathing season up to 7 months
  • thanks to the temperature control, the pool can also be cooled

However, you may be put off buying a pool pump by the high purchase costs, as heat pumps are more expensive than other solutions. If you decide to install a pump yourself, we will not stop you, but we strongly advise against it. It is better to invite professionals to install the pool technology.

Swimming pool heat exchanger for water heating

If you already have a heat pump, gas boiler or solar panels at home, then a pool heat exchanger will be the perfect choice for you. This is because the exchanger heats the water by using heat from another source.

It is a cylindrical vessel that contains thin tubes with pool water flowing through them. The system is often made of stainless steel, so it is best to avoid using salt technology in your pool. However, if you would like an above ground or inground pool with salt water technology we will install a pool heat exchanger with a corrosion resistant titanium body.

The pool heat exchanger provides efficient heat transfer for fast and economical heating of your pool water.

How a pool heat exchanger works

Pool heat exchanger water heating works on the principle of heat transfer between two circuits. Pool water flows in one circuit and hot water from, for example, a heat pump, solar system, gas boiler or electric heater flows in the other. The pool water therefore receives heat when it meets the hot water circuit.

Choosing a pool heat exchanger

When selecting a pool heat exchanger, the performance of the heat exchanger itself, the temperature of the medium (water from the heat pump) and the desired pool water temperature play a major role. The size of the pool is not very important for the selection. You should also know that the more powerful your heat exchanger, the faster you will heat the pool water.

Pool Exchanger Maintenance

To make sure your heat exchanger lasts a long time, be sure to clean the filters regularly and keep an eye on the proper level of pool chemicals. Maintaining optimal levels of chlorine or other chlorine-free chemistry will prevent sediment build-up and help the equipment resist corrosion. In addition, modern heat exchangers are designed to keep corrosion at bay.

Benefits of a pool heat exchanger

  • Use existing sources for heating
  • low energy consumption
  • low operating costs
  • long service life
  • low maintenance

As with a heat pump, a pool heat exchanger requires installation by a specialist. As we mentioned earlier, if you plan to use solonisation technology to disinfect your pool, avoid stainless steel heat exchangers.

Electric heating for swimming pools

If you are looking for a suitable solution not only for conventional pools but also for whirlpool pools, then electric heating is the right one for you. In addition, unlike other heating systems, it can cope with heating the water all year round, regardless of the weather. On the other hand, due to the high consumption of expensive electricity and thus high operating costs, electric water heating is more suited for heating smaller pools than large garden pools.

Electric pool heaters offer a fast and reliable solution for heating water, even on colder days.

How an electric pool heater works

With electric heating, the water is heated by a so-called heating element. This is the part of the electric instantaneous heater that is placed below the surface of the water where it transfers heat to the surrounding area. The heating element heats the surrounding water until the water reaches the set temperature.

Choosing an electric pool heater

The choice of electric heater is mainly influenced by the volume of the pool. A simple rule of thumb applies here: the larger the pool, the more power (more kW) you will need to heat the water quickly to the desired temperature. Therefore, choose an electric instantaneous heater that is powerful enough. Also think about safety and safety features when choosing. For example, we recommend you get a thermostat to set the water temperature and prevent it from overheating.

Advantages of an electric pool water heater

  • Heat your pool in any weather
  • You can enjoy warm water all year round, including the winter months
  • The desired water temperature can be easily adjusted
  • can heat the water up to 35 °C
  • you get fast water heating
  • the system is easy to install
  • can be used with all sizes and shapes of swimming pools we offer
  • also suitable for pools with salt water electrolysis

However, electric heating also has its disadvantages. The main ones include higher running costs, as you will burn a relatively large amount of electricity, the price of which is constantly rising. You should also be aware that you should not be in the pool during the heating process. In case of a short circuit, you could be injured. As with the aforementioned technologies, this one requires proper installation and a professional connection to the power grid. We will be happy to help you with the installation of the pool technology. Just contact us.

How to choose a water heating technique and when is which form more worthwhile?

In general, the best way to heat a pool is with a heat pump. However, the choice is primarily up to you. If you already have a heat pump, for example to heat your family home, you just need to get a heat exchanger to connect to the pool. Otherwise, we recommend getting a pool heat pump. However, if you don't mind the higher costs and want to relax in the warm water at any time, no matter the weather, buy an electric heating system.

Whether you want an indoor pool or an outdoor pool for the garden also plays an important role in your decision. In the case of an outdoor pool, the aforementioned roofing or solar sail will do you a great service, which we can help you choose in our guide to choosing the right roofing.

Still unsure about your choice? Then do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to advise you on your choice.

Water heating for home wellness

Hot water and bubbles just go together. Enjoy a moment of relaxation in your own home. Whirlpool pools come in a circle or square shape and we can adjust the dimensions to your specifications. However, fans can also be added to the bench in a regular pool, as well as pool lighting to create a pleasant atmosphere. You too can have a luxury pool and bubble bath in one.

If you are planning to place a hot tub or pool indoors, you definitely can't do without dehumidifiers. Humid air is great for bacteria and germs that you definitely don't want in the room.

Connecting and controlling pool technology

Whatever water heating device you choose, you always need to connect it to your pool. A pool distributor or smart control can be used to do this. The pool switchboard is primarily used to connect the pool technology wiring and, if connected to a timer, can cater for automatic water filtration or pool cleaning.

The intelligent control not only plugs in the pool technology, but also takes care of the automatic operation of the complete pool technology including pool filtration or lighting. In addition, by connecting to pool sensors and sensors, you get a constant overview of what's going on in the pool, which you can monitor on the mobile app. Discover more benefits of intelligent control in our article.

More pool technology and accessories

You can connect all pool technology such as pumps, water disinfection or sand filtration to both controls. Thanks to the intelligent control, you can also easily control all pool accessories, from the aforementioned pool lighting, to solar panels, to pool vacuums. To make it easier for you to choose a pool control device, we have prepared a comparison of smart control and pool control panel.
