Crystal clear water pool

Keeping your pool water clean isn't just a matter of appearance - it's essential for your health. Bacteria, algae, and other contaminants can quickly multiply in water that you don't treat regularly, and can cause skin and eye irritation or even more serious health problems. Clean water is the basis for carefree swimming, so it is important not only to clean your pool mechanically on a regular basis, but also to treat the water chemistry properly. This is the only way to avoid unpleasant odours, slippery coating on the bottom and walls and to ensure a hygienic environment for you and your family.

At the same time, you will extend the life of your pool equipment, as dirt and algae can damage the water filtration and the pool surface. Proper water maintenance therefore protects not only your health, but also your investment in the pool, so you can enjoy your refreshment and fun to the full.

A skimmer pool with a clean water surface that is efficiently maintained by the skimmer system makes maintenance easy.

Technology and accessories to achieve clear pool water

There are a number of pool technologies and other pool accessories on the market for pool water maintenance. The following devices are among the main helpers to achieve clear and healthy water:

  • Water disinfection equipment - you can choose either chlorine water treatment or the more gentle chlorine-free water treatment.
  • Water filtration equipment - you can choose between sand filtration, which captures fine impurities, and cartridge filtration, which is a cylinder of paper layered in a circle in the form of an "accordion". Cartridge filtration, unlike sand filtration, is more maintenance intensive and requires more frequent replacement.
  • Pool vacuums that remove debris from the bottom and walls. You can choose from manual pool vacuums and automatic vacuums.
  • Pool disinfectant tablets, which can replace disinfectant systems in smaller, often inflatable pools. These tablets are placed in the pool's tablet float.
  • Pool cleaning nets, which can be used to quickly and easily fish out debris such as leaves or insects from the pool.

Combine these technologies and accessories to keep your water clean, safe and ready for use.

Chlorine vs. chlorine-free treatment - disinfecting water

There are two main methods for ensuring safe, bacteria-free pool water - chlorine and chlorine-free water treatment, each with their own specific advantages and disadvantages.

Chlorine water treatment

Chlorine disinfection of pool water is a classic method of water treatment that provides long-term protection against bacteria. You can either choose the manual and cheapest way of disinfecting the water with hypochlorite in tablet or liquid form, or via an automatic dosing station that measures the water quality and doses chlorine itself as needed. Automatic dosing stations are very popular despite the higher purchase costs. The disadvantage of chlorine water treatment is that it is not very gentle on nature or your skin.

If you are looking for a gentler, yet chlorine-free disinfection, bet on a technology that takes care of water treatment by electrolysis of salt water. The so-called pool salt water heater or salinator is a reliable method of water treatment that works with chlorine gas, oxygen and, to some extent, ozone. It is more environmentally and skin friendly and is generally one of the less expensive ways of disinfecting pool water.

Chlorine-free water treatment

For more sensitive skin and allergy sufferers, chlorine-free pool water treatment is ideal. At Morava Ekol, we offer water disinfection using UV or ozone to purify the water without chemical residues. It takes care of the elimination of bacteria, viruses and algae. Chlorine-free disinfection of pool water is environmentally friendly and skin-friendly, suitable even for people prone to eczema and various skin allergies. However, the disadvantages can be higher purchase costs and also more demanding water maintenance - in order to use chlorine-free water treatment, the pH of the water needs to be between 6.8 and 7.4.

Whether you prefer a traditional or more environmentally friendly approach, Morava Ekol offers solutions for both types of water treatment.

The hero in the background or how sand water filtration works

Sand filtration is one of the most effective systems for purifying pool water. It works on the principle of passing water through a layer of filter material - fine sand, filter glass, or activated AFM material. This material traps impurities such as leaves, grass and micro-particles to ensure clear water. Maintaining a sand filter is easy - regular flushing of the filtration will release trapped debris, extending its life and efficiency. After a certain period of time, after about 3 to 5 years, just replace the dirty sand with new sand and you can continue to swim in clear water.

The role of the pool pump in pool maintenance

The pool pump is a key element for the proper functioning of the filtration system. It pumps water from the pool to the filter and back into the pool, keeping the water in constant circulation. This prevents water stagnation that would lead to water pollution. Simply put - sand filtration would not work without a pool pump.

When choosing a pool pump, you need to take into account how many technologies it will be connected to. Its job is not just to pump water into the filter. It also takes care of feeding water to the massage jets, spouts, pool waterfalls and the air in the relaxation benches. And if you have pool water heating, you can't do without a pool pump.

Pool vacuums - bottom and wall cleaners

Pool vacuum cleaners save you a lot of time and effort. Choose from manual pool vacuums or automatic pool vacuums that will take care of every corner of your pool. Regular vacuuming is essential for keeping your pool clean and preventing dirt and grease from settling on the bottom and walls of your pool. Our manual and automatic vacuums can clean all types and shapes of pools.

Manual vacuums for cleaning the bottom and walls of pools are generally more suitable for smaller pools or as a temporary solution. They are also a cheaper option for removing debris that does not require a connection to the mains, saving you costs. In the case of a skimmer pool, this vacuum cleaner can be connected to the skimmer, while for an overflow pool, the vacuum cleaner must be connected to the built-in vacuum nozzle in the pool wall.

If you want to save yourself time with pool maintenance, you can with automatic pool vacuum cleaners for the bottom and walls. Just plug it in, turn it on and the vacuum will take care of everything else. It can also navigate uneven terrain, corners and overcome obstacles. It effectively disposes of leaves, sand and dead algae in the pool, which end up in the filter bag.

The automatic pool vacuum effectively cleans the pool bottom and walls without the need for manual intervention.

How to combine the different technologies to achieve clean and healthy water?

In order to achieve crystal clear and healthy pool water, it is crucial to combine the different pool maintenance technologies correctly. In general, you need to combine filtration with water disinfection, as the filter takes care of removing dirt in the form of insects, pollen and other micro-particles, while disinfection eliminates viruses and bacteria. The choice of the specific type, i.e. sand filtration, cartridge filtration and chlorine disinfection or chlorine-free water disinfection is purely up to you - your needs, financial possibilities, but also the size and location of the pool. Larger inground pools may require more complicated maintenance systems, while smaller inflatable or regular above ground pools can work with simpler solutions.

Cartridge filtration, for example, is more suitable for smaller pools, as is water disinfection with pool disinfectant tablets placed in the float and a handheld vacuum or brush to clean the pool bottom and walls of grease buildup once in a while or every season.

However, if you own a large inground pool and you really care about its 100% cleanliness, we recommend you to bet on sand filtration, chlorine dosing station or chlorine-free water disinfection and supplement them with an automatic pool vacuum cleaner, which will take care of effective removal of dirt and prevention of its deposition on the bottom.

Thorough maintenance with the right combination of technologies will help you achieve clean and safe water for carefree swimming. The choice of pool maintenance technologies should therefore not be underestimated.

Achieve clean pool water smartly with intelligent pool management

Pool control panels centralise the control of all the pool' s electrical elements, such as filtration, pump or lighting, in one place, making them easier to manage and allowing the entire pool system to operate efficiently.

Intelligent pool control allows you to control all pool systems remotely using a mobile app. The combination of technologies such as sand filtration, pool pump, disinfection and intelligent control brings not only maximum water clarity but also convenience in pool maintenance. If you already have these cleaning systems installed, connecting them with intelligent control is a great step.

This smart pool equipment completely replaces conventional control panels and brings convenience and flexibility to pool maintenance. In fact, it allows automatic control and monitoring of all pool technology remotely - from filtration and disinfection to lighting and maintaining optimal water temperature. This saves time and energy, while avoiding constant manual maintenance. The intelligent system can keep the water clean and pH balanced with minimal effort on your part, even in your absence. You can monitor everything that is happening in the pool in real time on your mobile phone. For more details on how to save time and hassle with intelligent control, see our next article.

What else can help you keep the water clean or pool roofing and pool tarps

Covering your pool with pool tarps and pool roofing effectively protects the water from debris such as leaves and insects, saving you time spent on maintenance. In addition, a quality pool cover retains heat, which can extend the swimming season and allow swimming even in the colder months. Whichever option you choose - single track or double track roofing - both are easy to use and have a sleek design that fits any exterior.

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, our pool tarps are weatherproof and reduce the cost of purchasing pool chemicals and heating. We offer three pool cover options - a pool solar tarp, a safety tarp, and a winterizing pool tarp - to make sure your pool is always dirt-free and ready for summer fun.
